Bob Markham recalls a visit to the Blue Peter TV studios more than 30 years ago - on Radio Suffolk's Evening Show on Monday October 5th. Find it 2 hours and 7 minutes into the show. The star of the Blue Peter show was young Russell Wickwar's woolly rhinoceros jaw found in Gipping valley gravel and presented to Ipswich Museum, where it has been displayed to this day.

With the Museum opening again, this very popular exhibit awaits your visit. It is a full-size replica of an adult Woolly Mammoth, based on finds preserved in the permafrost of Siberia. They lived in Suffolk during the latter part of the Ice Age, perhaps 20,000 years ago or less. Don't forget your mask - fortunately elephants do not need them!
Also look out for bones of Ipswich's Maidenhall Mammoth (a different species to Wool-I-Am) in a nearby case.
