This was a temporary excavation to supply clay to Aldeburgh Brickworks. The sequence exposed was Chalky Boulder Clay (till), Chillesford Clay, Chillesford Crag, Scrobicularia Crag. The Chillesford Clay yielded moulds of squashed bivalves and few fossil fish vertebrae. The pit is on private land - this photo, looking east, was taken earlier this month from the public footpath. The pit was active in the 1980s - see photograph (looking west) in the Ipswich Geological Group section of the Gallery.
